Ending Female Genital Mutilation

Ending Female Genital Mutation

Mojatu Foundation works with FGM survivors and communities affected by FGM in safeguarding girls and women at risk of FGM and supporting the survivor. We engage thes individuals, communities and other partners and stakeholders in raising awareness and tackling FGM, in the UK and Internationally. In doing this, we adopt the following strategies and models

FGM survivors support and intervention

Mojatu Foundation provides compassionate, confidential, and culturally sensitive support to women and girls affected by or at risk of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). We deliver safeguarding, advocacy, emotional wellbeing support, specialist referrals, and community education to protect girls, empower survivors, prevent FGM, and promote lasting positive change

Community based and led approach

Our community-led approach places affected communities at the centre of the movement to end FGM. We believe sustainable change happens when communities are empowered to challenge harmful practices and become advocates for change.

Through awareness campaigns, community dialogues, workshops, and peer education, we equip women, men, young people, faith leaders, and community champions with the knowledge, confidence, and resources to protect girls and promote positive cultural change. By developing local leaders and ambassadors, we help create communities where girls and women can live free from FGM.

Professionals and statutory bodies Engagements

Ending FGM requires strong partnerships between communities and professionals. Mojatu Foundation works with healthcare providers, schools, social care services, police, local authorities, and voluntary organisations to strengthen safeguarding and improve responses to those affected by FGM.

We provide specialist training, professional development, awareness sessions, and practical guidance to help frontline staff identify risks, understand their safeguarding responsibilities, and respond appropriately while working sensitively with affected communities

 Training and Resources

We deliver practical, evidence-based training to professionals, community organisations, schools, faith groups, and volunteers to increase knowledge and confidence in preventing and responding to FGM.

Our training is available through face-to-face workshops, online tutor-led sessions, and hybrid learning, making it accessible to individuals and organisations across the UK and internationally. Participants receive up-to-date resources, practical guidance, and tools to support safeguarding, awareness raising, and community engagement.

Advocacy and policy change

Mojatu Foundation works to influence policies and systems that protect women and girls from FGM. We engage with local authorities, government agencies, policymakers, community organisations, and national networks to promote stronger safeguarding measures and improve services for survivors.

Through campaigns, research, community voices, and partnerships, we advocate for greater awareness, improved access to support services, and policies that place survivors at the heart of decision-making. Our goal is to contribute to a future where FGM is no longer tolerated in any community

FGM Ambassadors programme

The Mojatu Foundation FGM Ambassadors Programme empowers passionate individuals to become champions for change within their communities. Ambassadors receive specialist training, ongoing mentoring, and opportunities to participate in awareness campaigns, community outreach, public events, and advocacy initiatives.

By sharing knowledge and promoting open conversations, our ambassadors help challenge myths, encourage reporting, support survivors, and inspire communities to take collective action towards ending FGM.
