Mojatu Foundation works with FGM survivors and communities affected by FGM in safeguarding girls and women at risk of FGM and supporting the survivor.We engage thes individuals, communities and other partners and stakeholders in raising awareness and tackling FGM, in the UK and Internationally. In doing this, we adopt the following strategies and models
FGM survivors support and intervention
Mojatu Foundation provides compassionate, confidential, and culturally sensitive support to women and girls affected by or at risk of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). We deliver safeguarding, advocacy, emotional wellbeing support, specialist referrals, and community education to protect girls, empower survivors, prevent FGM, and promote lasting positive change
Community based and led approach
Our community-led approach places affected communities at the heart of ending FGM. Through awareness campaigns, dialogues, workshops, and peer education, we empower women, men, young people, faith leaders, and community champions to challenge harmful practices. By developing local leaders and ambassadors, we promote positive cultural change and protect girls and women.
Professionals and statutory bodies Engagements
Mojatu Foundation works with healthcare providers, schools, social care, police, local authorities, and voluntary organisations to strengthen safeguarding and responses to FGM. Through specialist training, professional development, awareness sessions, and practical guidance, we equip frontline professionals to identify risks, understand responsibilities, respond appropriately, and support affected communities with sensitivity and care.
Advocacy and policy change
Mojatu Foundation advocates for policies and systems that protect women and girls from FGM. Through campaigns, research, partnerships, and community voices, we engage policymakers, authorities, and organisations to strengthen safeguarding, improve survivor support, and increase awareness. We promote survivor-centred decision-making and work towards a future where FGM is no longer tolerated.
Training and Resources
We provide practical, evidence-based training for professionals, community organisations, schools, faith groups, and volunteers to strengthen knowledge and confidence in preventing and responding to FGM. Training is available through face-to-face workshops, online tutor-led sessions, and hybrid learning, with up-to-date resources, practical guidance, and tools supporting safeguarding and community engagement.
FGM Ambassadors Programme
The FGM Ambassadors Programme empowers individuals to become community champions for change. Ambassadors receive specialist training, mentoring, and opportunities to support awareness campaigns, outreach, events, and advocacy. By sharing knowledge, challenging myths, encouraging reporting, and supporting survivors, they help build informed communities and inspire collective action to prevent and ultimately end FGM.
